Covid 19 has had an unprecedented impact on all markets, in particular we’ve seen a big impact on finding the supplies needed for Home remodels. While many people are using these Covid times to remodel and renovate their homes, given the amount of time their spending time at home during the crisis. There has been a huge surge in work for Contractors, but setback on inventory & supplies needed to complete these projects. Covid has had a detrimental impact on many supplier’s production capabilities, shipping from overseas markets and low stock inventories across America on goods. If you want to do renovation and remodeling work during these times, these are some of the things you should consider.

Appliances & Electronics

Clients looking to redo their kitchens and purchase new appliances and electronics, should consider buying these items as soon as they find them on the market and not wait till right before the renovations begin. Top models of popular brands such as LG and Samsung Refrigerators & Stovetops have been Out of Stock or on back-order at Home Depot and Best Buy, and are expected to ship 1-3 mos later.

Kitchen Cabinets

2020’s latest trend is Blue & Grey colored cabinets, and many customers are finding it extremely hard to find all the pieces they need in stock. Stores such as Ikea & Home Depot are having a hard time keeping their supplies in stock, with no certainty as to when they will have select items back in stock . One client bought a $7,000 Ikea kitchen, only to find out that she had to go to 5 Ikea’s in the NY/NJ area to source all the cabinet doors and base cabinets she needed. In the end, she resorted to buying half her cabinet doors in white, and paying extra to have them professionally colored to match the Blue color she needed. In order to keep her project on time, she hired us to duplicate and build her a replica of the Ikea Pantry and some base cabinets, because Ikea had no idea when they would have these in stock- even when looking 30 days in advance. At Mega Improvement we aim to keep you on budget and on time, and do our best to meet your needs.

How to get around the low inventory issues

Our suggestions are to

1. Chose several sources to find your supplies and items, before you start your remodeling project. Ask questions such as how much inventory they have in stock? How often are they replenishing their supplies ? Have they have had issues in the past 3 months having these supplies in stock?

2. If you find that their inventory is low, and they’ve been experiencing shipping delays from their suppliers, then buy the items you “must have to accomplish your dream remodel”. We know its hard to find space for large scale items in your home, but it’s worth considering renting a storage unit a few months before you’re ready to start your remodeling/renovation to store these items. Consider renting a small storage unit at your nearby CubeSmart (with 1 month free storage) and start buying your supplies & items a few months before your renovation project begins.

We assure you this will save you from headaches in the future, and will ensure your project is done on time and on budget!

Our team at Mega Improvement is here to help you, and we provide our clients with the insight and solutions they need to circumvent most roadblocks that come up. We have fostered strong relationships with small business to provide the flexibility you will need to get your project done on time.
